Members of the Abberley and Malvern Hills Geopark were on hand to identify your own specimens and provide you with more information about walks and talks in the area.

21st July 2018 - The Fabulous Malvern Hills
Geologist extraordinaire Chris Darmon hosted a day in the Malvern Hills! As President of the Geopark, he showed participants some of Malvern's fine Precambrian and Silurian rocks.
27th May - 3rd Sep 2017 - GeoFest 2017.
Held at various venues around the Abberley & Malvern Hills Geopark, this was a chance to learn more about the local geology and geography. Activities included trails, walks, children's activities, and exhibitions.
29th July 2017 - 10:30am - 3:30pm. A Textile Craft Day - for the whole family.
Demonstrations of fabric painting, printing and stencilling. It was also an opportunity to try out these techniques for yourself and see how fossils and rocks can be used as an inspiration for arts and crafts. This was a GeoFest event by ‘Geologists in the Geopark’ and led by Georgia Jacobs.

We offered a free Taster Membership session on our Countryside Mobility Tramper to access the Worcestershire Beacon for some fresh air and fine 360-degree views.

2016 Tour Ride Worcestershire included a route up and over the Malvern Hills with our centre as a food & drink stop for the riders.

The third annual Malvern Munch walking food extravaganza set out around and over the Malvern Hills, calling in at the GeoCentre for lunch.
24th May 2016 - Land Rover trips
Malvern Hills Access Partnership: the first trip taking guests with limited or no mobility to Worcestershire Beacon in a Land Rover. This is an initiative between Land Rover Experience at Eastnor Castle, the Rotary Club of Malvern, Malvern Hills Conservators, Malvern Hills GeoCentre, and Cafe H2O. This scheme is planned to run three or so times per year (more details).

Time: our most precious asset. A day school with some local field work to celebrate the Bicentenary of William Smith's first geological map of England & Wales. Hosted by geologist extraordinaire Chris Darmon.
8th November 2015 - Geology Walk
Geology walk ended at our Centre; part of the Malvern Hills Conservators events programme in conjunction with the Earth Heritage Trust.
4th October 2015 - Aviva Tour Ride stop-off
The Aviva Tour Ride 2015 came to Worcestershire, and the 100 mile pro-ride and 75 mile intermediate-ride both passed outside our Centre. We were a refreshment station for the riders.
15th August 2015 - Hands-on Fossils
Mark O'Dell returned to give a talk about local fossils typically found in the Malverns and Cotswolds. This was also a chance to see first-hand some examples from Mark's collection and to bring your own samples for identification or discussion.
1st August 2015 - Hands-on Rocks & Minerals
Margaret Rodway returned to the Centre with her extensive collection of rocks and minerals, providing a great opportunity to see a wide range of geological specimens, some applicable to the Malverns, and ask any questions about rock or mineral samples.

Part of the Great British Greyhound Walk 2015 that departed from the GeoCentre and headed up to the Worcestershire Beacon and back.
10th June 2015 - Minerals of Malvern presentation
Minerals of the Malverns. An excellent talk was given by Adrian Wyatt about the minerals found on and around the Malvern Hills with some hands-on samples to inspect.
24th May 2015 - Malvern Munch
The Malvern Food Festival's walk from Rose Bank Gardens in Great Malvern up and around the Malvern Hills returned for its second year, and called into us as the lunchtime stop. After a few initial rain showers, this was a great day out for all the family who enjoyed tasting good local food and drink whilst exercising in the fresh air.
26th April 2015 - Electric Vehicle Cavalcade
Electric Vehicle (EV) cavalcade ahead of the ElectrAA2 event in Malvern Theatres. Councillor Julian Roskams, Mayor of Malvern, cut the ribbon on our new 32A Type 2 Zero Carbon World charging station and then two Teslas, 2 Nissan Leafs and a Renault Zoe set off in a cavalcade to Priory Park in Great Malvern.
25th April 2015 - Self-Guided Walks Launch
We launched our Walks from the Wyche; two self-guided walks from the Centre with support from the Malvern Hills AONB and Malvern Hills Conservators. One is a northern loop including the Purlieu, Park Wood, Hayslad, and the Worcestershire Beacon, and the other is a southern loop walk that takes in Gardiners Quarry.
12th April 2015 - Cycling Sportive stop-off
Land of Hops & Glory Cycling Sportive called in for lunch en-route along the Malvern Hills.
11th April 2015 - Geology Field Trip
Face to face with rocks in Malvern. This was a chance to learn how to go about ‘reading’ a landscape and understand the geology under your feet with geologist extraordinaire Chris Darmon.
28th March 2015 - Geology Walk
Geology walk for beginners, an introduction to rocks and minerals in the Malvern Hills with local geologist Adrian Wyatt. This was an easy stroll on and around the Malvern Hills in the vicinity of the GeoCentre to discover first hand some of the geological features and mineral samples under foot.
18th March 2015 - First Aid / Defibrillator Community Training

23rd October 2014 - The Battle of Gheluvelt Presentation
A fascinating illustrated talk from Alan Cowpe about The Battle of Gheluvelt 31st October 1914; One Hundred Years after the Event. The story of how 300 men from Worcestershire saved an empire and decided the course of history.
11th October 2014 - Renewable Energy Showcase
Renewable energy drop-in showcase as part of h.Energy. This was an opportunity to learn about using renewable energy at home, in a business or in a community project. We had a mini exhibition from Malvern Community Energy Co-op, Energy Solutions Malvern, and Wyche Innovation Centre to help answer your questions. There was also some story-telling in the afternoon.
10th September 2014 - Tour of Britain
The Tour of Britain 2014 cycling race passed the Centre en-route from Worcester to Bristol. This was an ideal spot to see the competitors just after their tough hill climb as they sped off round the south west of the Malvern Hills. Highlights from the day are here.
31st August 2014 - Guided Walk
A guided 9 miles exploratory and leisurely circular walk with outstanding views, visiting many points of interest including the hill forts of British Camp and Midsummer Hill, the historic Holy Well, Gullet quarry and Castlemorton Common. The route was moderately hilly but there were no long ascents. This was a free event, led by Brian Pitts, as part of the GeoFest 2014 programme.
16th August 2014 - Hands-on Fossils
Another popular hands-on Fossils session was given by Mark O'Dell, local amateur palaeontologist who has found numerous rare and interesting fossils in the Malverns and Cotswolds. Part of the GeoFest 2014 programme.
9th August 2014 - Hands-on Rocks
Hands-on Rocks session with Margaret Rodway, a local geologist and expert on rocks and minerals. This was also part of the GeoFest 2014 programme.
7th August 2014 - Jill Peer Children's Stories
Jill Peer, local author, read some excerpts from her children's books and also he colleague did some face painting to help entertain our young visitors.
5th July 2014 - Geology Walk
Geology walk from the Centre led by Dick Bryant took in the fascinating local geology at the Wyche Cutting and on the west of the Malvern Hills in Upper Colwall. This was part of the GeoFest 2014 programme.
24th June 2014 - Bugs & Beetles Presentation
"The good, the bad and the ugly!". Bill Inge from the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust, gave a very interesting talk about some of the bugs, beetles and other insects to be found in and around the Malvern Hills in early summer. The talk included some stunning macro photographs taken by the presenter.
22nd June 2014 - Great British Greyhound walk
The Malvern Hills Beacon Walk, part of the Great British Greyhound Walk campaign, started and finished from the Centre.
21st June 2014 - Classic Car Cavalcade
Colwall Ale House Festival's Classic Car Cavalcade assembled and departed from the Centre's car park to make its way down to the main Festival through the village. See a selection of photos here.
12th June 2014 - Minerals of the Malvern Hills Presentation
An evening talk on the Minerals of the Malvern Hills was given by Adrian Wyatt as part of the GeoFest 2014 programme. This interesting review of the minerals found on the Malverns highlighted twenty different materials including some crystalline forms that can be identified from rock samples. A selection of samples were also available to handle and inspect after the talk.
24th May - 1st June 2014 - Malvern Walking Festival
Malvern Walking Festival 2014. A choice of numerous walks from the strenuous to the leisurely enabled participants to explore the Malvern Hills and surrounding towns and villages. Some of the walks started, ended or passed near the Malvern Hills, including "Wyche Way to Colwall" - a walk led by David Hawkins that descended from the Centre down to Colwall and take in the meadows of the Ballard Estate.
25th May 2014 - Malvern Munch
The inaugural Malvern Munch walking tour called into the GeoCentre for the lunchtime stop. This 6 mile walk around the Malvern Hills was part of the Great Malvern Food Festival and Malvern Walking Festival.
6th-12th May 2014 - Route to the Hills Information Display
An information display about the Route to the Hills project was available for viewing with an opportunity to provide feedback and comments.
28th - 30th April 2014 - School Visit from King's Hawford
Pupils from King's Hawford school visited the Centre as part of their trip to Malvern Hills to learn about the geology, history and environmental conservation of the area.
18th April 2014 - Jill Peer Children's Stories
Jill Peer, local author, was on hand to read some of her and others' children's books as well as doing some face painting.
2nd April 2014 - STEMNET Networking Meeting
We hosted the Herefordshire and Worcestershire STEMNET networking meeting for STEM Ambassadors and local teachers to meet and discuss opportunities to collaborate. Dr Adrian Burden gave a brief overview of the STEM initiatives taking place at the Wyche Innovation Centre and the Malvern Hills GeoCentre.
1st April 2014 - Geology of the Malvern Hills
John Payne, from the Earth Heritage Trust, gave a very interesting talk about the Geology of the Malvern Hills and surrounding valleys to a local group of retired ladies.
17th March 2014 - Colwall Scout Group visit
Colwall Scout Group visited the Centre to hear about the Malvern Hills GeoCentre and the reason it was set up. They then used the digital resources to research the local area as part of their Community project work.
8th March 2014 - Book Signing
Local author Anne Bradford (writer of Haunted Pubs and Hotels of Worcestershire and Its Borders, and other books on the subject of local ghosts and hauntings) was on hand to meet readers and sign her books.

13th February 2014 - West Malvern WI meeting
The West Malvern WI visited the Centre and Dr Adrian Burden, Technical Director of Key IQ, provided an overview of the Malvern Hills GeoCentre and the various initiatives running at the Wyche Innovation Centre.

17th December 2013 - Wyche Innovation Centre Xmas Buffet & Carol Service
Business residents of the Wyche Innovation Centre joined Team Jamboree for a Christmas buffet followed by a short high-tech Carol Service around the video wall! Some of the members of Team Jamboree gave readings to the 'congregation'; a great accomplishment for them. See photo highlights here...

The Malvern Hills Citizen's Advice Bureau held their Christmas Lunch in the GeoCentre and celebrated another year of hard work with their team of staff and volunteers.
20th November 2013 - Malvern Tourism Forum
The Malvern Hills District Council held the Malvern Tourism Forum at the Centre to bring local stakeholders up to date with developments in the regional tourism industry. Included talks about the Technology for Tourism initiative, the 3D virtual map of Malvern, Three Counties Showground, Route to the Hills and the MHDC tourism strategic plan.
16th November 2013 - Experiment in International Living UK event
We hosted EIL UK so that they could launch their new website on our video wall, update their members about their new initiatives and then have lunch together catered for by Cafe H2O.
20th October 2013 - Guided walk along a local section of the Geopark Way
Despite the changeable weather, the sponsored walk / guided walk from north Malvern, via the GeoCentre, to Ledbury along two designated sections of the Geopark Way went well. 4th September 2013 - Malvern Walking Festival End-of-Season Buffet Lunch
We hosted the guides and organisers of the Malvern Walking Festival 2013 as they celebrated a successful season (their 9th year) with a buffet lunch. A talk about the Malvern Hills GeoCentre and Technology for Tourism initiative was given by Dr Adrian Burden, Technical Director of Key IQ Ltd.
19th - 25th August 2013 - Artist in Residence
Local artist Antony Bridge was painting nearby on the Malvern Hills during this week and displayed his pictures at the Centre as they dried. Between sessions, he was on hand to discuss his paintings, or you could find him on the Hills and watch the master at work! A selection of his paintings are on sale at the Centre.

Vernon, the life-size model of a Velociraptor skeleton, was on loan from the H&W Earth Heritage Trust as part of GeoFest 2013. We also had a dinosaur trail for children to follow and obtain a certificate on successful completion.
4th August 2013 - Hands-on Fossils
Local fossil expert Mark O'Dell gave an introductory talk about local fossils and then there was an opportunity to view and handle various samples, and for visitors to bring their own in to have them identified and explained.

Local author Anne Bradford joined us to discuss and sign copies of the latest edition of her book Haunted Pubs and Hotels of Worcestershire and Its Borders. John Bradford, her husband, was also on hand to sign his books including Severn's Southern Hills, featuring the Malvern Hills, Abberley Hills, Bredon Hill and the Clee Hills.
13th July 2013 - Hands on Geology Session
This was a chance to handle some fascinating rocks and minerals, and to learn more about the local geology and geological history from local expert Margaret Rodway. Part of the GeoFest 2013 series of events.
11th July 2013 - Visits from Alvechurch Middle School and the Wyche Primary School
We hosted two visits from local schools as part of their field trip on the Malvern Hills. Alvechurch used the iPads to help research information for their website project on the Hills. Both schools had a brief presentation about the Centre and examples of technology being used to improve tourism.
7th July 2013 - Wimbledon Finals Strawberries & Cream!
We showed the exciting Wimbledon Mens' Finals on the video wall whilst people enjoyed quintessential English refreshments!

19th June 2013 - Visit from St James' CE Primary School, West Malvern
Year 6 pupils from St James' CE Primary School in West Malvern visited the Malvern Hills GeoCentre for an introduction to the Wyche Innovation Centre and a presentation about technology being used in tourism. They then used the iPads and wall maps to device their own local guided walking tours in pairs, presenting their results to the rest of the class. They then set out up on to the Malvern Hills for a picnic lunch and a hike back to their school, armed with interesting facts about the locality with which to impress their teachers! [photo album]
12th June 2013 - Open morning for local Bed & Breakfast owners and hoteliers
A chance for owners of local B&Bs and hotels to drop in for some cake, fresh filter coffee and to see the new Centre and its resources. Key IQ also gave an update on the Wyche Innovation Centre and Technology for Tourism initiative and the Malvern Hills District Council gave an update on the Route to the Hills project and the district's Visitor Economy Action Plan 2013-15. 1st June 2013 - Official Opening of the Malvern Hills GeoCentre and Launch of GeoFest 2013
Chris Darmon, President of the Geopark Way and Chairman of the Youth Hostels Association, cut the ribbon and officially launched GeoFest 2013. Experts were on hand to discuss fossils and rocks, whilst children had the opportunity to paint fossil replicas and colour land and seascapes. [photo album]
25th May 2013 - Soft Opening of the Malvern Hills GeoCentre and Cafe H2O to the public
The new iPad trees, wall maps and video wall were unveiled to the public, and Joanne and her team started running Cafe H2O at the weekends and bank holidays.
